BATTLESTAR GALACTICA IS AWESOME!

Man. I just spent the past 4 hours watching the new Battlestar Galactica Miniseries. Okay, it isn’t really new, it’s like 4 years old. WHERE I HAVE I BEEN THIS WHOLE TIME?! Man, that thing was unbelievably awesome. I can’t believe I put it off until now to start watching it. It’s been on my to-do list for way toooo long and since they announced a new spin-off, BG: Razor, I thought I should catch up.

battlestar3I am downloading season one as we speak and will soon start on getting season two and three as well. It is so cool. I haven’t been excited over a sci-fi tv show in looOOooong time. It’s got drama, sex, hot-shot pilots, suspense, cool fighters, hot chicks and some cool action sequences. It hasn’t bogged me down with too much technical mumbo-jumbo like Star Trek (& TNG and DS9) and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Sure, the whole “fight for survival” story line has been played out in many sci-fi shows before, but this seems to be a little different. Maybe I am particularly biased because I was infatuated with the original BG series from 1978. I actually watched the whole series when I was a kid (reruns of course) and loved it then and love it now. Basically, the new miniseries is just a remake of the original tv series with a nice twist. Fans of the original series will appreciate the fact that they took the technologies from the original series (Cylons,Vipers and the actual Battlestar Galactica) and integrated it seemlessly.

There are several things that are are inconsistent about technologies they use. If they have FTL capability (faster-than-light), than why are they still using bullets? Why don’t they have force fields? Why haven’t they explored into deep space and expanded their colonies already? Eh, that’s what suspension of disbelief is for. You watch it to be entertained, if you are being entertained, it has done it’s job! Oh, and something I am glad they got right. Since there is no air in space, there is cannot be any noise because sound travels by vibrating the air particles around it. So when those bad-ass Vipers are zooming around space they don’t make any noise. A little odd at first, but you get used to it.

I think Thanksgiving break will be an excellent opportunity to watch season 1-3.
